Reason for joining ECCR
ECCR is a scientific organization that brings together scientists from different areas of interest and expertise in the cardiovascular field, from basic to translational and clinical research. ECCR meeting is a friendly and pleasant environment to constructively interact with colleagues, and share ideas as well as different research experiences. Furthermore, ECCR always encourages interaction among young European scientists in the cardio-metabolic field and promotes networking among them. Joining the Executive Committee is a great opportunity to share and put into practice new ideas to improve the activities and facilitate the interaction of the ECCR community.
A Favourite book that you would recommend and why
Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies; by Jared Diamond.
This book seeks to answer the question, “Why did the rate of progress differ so much for cultures on different continents?” In particular, the author explores why some civilizations became more economically and politically dominant than others. The ideas offered by this book contribute to understanding better human societies and the current issues in the modern world. In particular, it is highlighted that in many areas of life, success is not about doing one thing correctly, but about avoiding many possible modes of failure.
“Guns, Germs, and Steel” contributes to chronicle the way that the modern world came to be and stunningly dismantles racially based theories of human history.
