Professor Matthias Barton, M.D.
Matthias Barton, MD, graduated from Hannover Medical School and underwent clinical training in internal medicine, cardiology, and anesthesiology in Hannover, Basel, Bern, and Zürich. Since 2007 he has been Professor of Cardiology at the University of Zürich. His primary clinical and investigative focus are and have been preventive cardiology and coronary artery disease, areas also studied with a Swiss National Science Foundation SCORE career development award he held between 1999 and 2005. Dr. Barton is a Fellow of the American Heart Association (AHA) and the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). He is a member of the Working Group on Endothelin and Endothelial Factors of the European Society of Hypertension (ESH) and past Chair of the Twelfth International Conference on Endothelin (ET-12) held in 2011 in Cambridge, UK. Dr. Barton is founder and chairman of the board of directors of the Andreas Grüntzig Foundation and was elected to the Academia Europaea (AE) in 2017.
